1. General information
The subject aims to offer a multidisciplinary and transversal training that favours the richness of perspectives and the integrative consideration of heritage. Its objective is to train historians and managers of documentary heritage , i.e., professionals from public administrations or private entities who study, contextualize, conserve and highlight assets of historical and heritage value, and raise public awareness of the importance of their preservation and maintenance.
These approaches and objectives are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda of the United Nations (2030 Agenda (https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/).

2. Learning results
In order to pass this subject, students must demonstrate the following learning results:
Recognizes and values the different manifestations of documentary heritage.
Selects and designs the installation systems and document repositories.
Uses the techniques and instruments for the analysis, valuation and management of historical-documentary heritage.
Inspects the state of conservation of documents and identifies the causes of their deterioration.
Develops strategies for the preservation and recovery of documentary heritage.
Is trained in the application of methodologies for the analysis and conservation of historical-documentary heritage.
3. Syllabus
1. Historical documentary heritage and archives. Concepts and legislation.
2. Archives and archival science: history and current affairs.
3. The Historical Archive.
4. Main historical archives in Spain: history and characteristics (I. Public archives).
5. Main historical archives of Spain: history and characteristics (II. Private archives).
4. Academic activities
- Theoretical classes where the proposed syllabus will be explained.
- Readings and personal work of the students in order to enhance their comprehension skills and written and oral expression.
- Practical classes in which students will apply the concepts, methods and techniques on historical documentary and archival heritage previously explained. There will also be guided tours of archives, which will allow to come into contact with historical documentation.
- Face-to-face and virtual tutoring.
- Evaluation according to the characteristics and criteria detailed in the “Assessment System" section.
5. Assessment system
I. First call
a) Continuous assessment system (in the case of an enrolment of no more than 25 students):
- Written test on the contents of the subject (60%)
- Practical exercises carried out both inside the classroom under the supervision of the teacher and outside the classroom (30%)
- Active participation and autonomous work (10%)
A minimum of 4 points in each test is required for averaging.
b) Global assessment test (to be held on the date set in the academic calendar) that includes theory and practice, and whose grade will be the final grade (100%)
